Minnesota State University, Mankato is a public university located in Mankato, Minnesota, and is one of the largest and oldest institutions within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Founded in 1868 as Mankato Normal School, the university originally focused on teacher training with an inaugural class of just 27 students before gradually expanding its academic scope over the decades. Today, it has grown into Minnesota’s second-largest university with more than 145,000 living alumni worldwide and a student population exceeding 15,000. The institution offers over 130 undergraduate programs along with more than 80 master’s, advanced certificate, and doctoral options across multiple colleges, including allied health and nursing, arts and humanities, business, education, social and behavioral sciences, and science, engineering, and technology.
